SUMMER GARDEN

Hi Friends,

I’ve been enjoying the wonderful Spring weather that we’ve been having. It is such a beautiful time of year, and I love to see the fresh blossom and buds on trees, as well as the vast swath of common bluebells that adorn our gardens and parks. With this in mind, I thought it would be an opportune time to share my recent watercolour piece “Summer Garden”. I took inspiration from a beautiful tiny pink rose bush which my husband was given by one of his lovely customers. The beautiful rose that bloomed was so perfect and magnificent in all it’s glory that I just had to take a photo of it for when the time was right to paint it. This recent Bank Holiday weekend was my perfect opportunity to revisit that moment, and create a watercolour piece encapsulating that rose and other blooms in a semi-abstract setting. This weekend was also poignant for me as my husband, myself and our son spent a lot of time in the garden cleaning, tidying up, and cutting hedges - generally getting the garden ready for the summer and for us to enjoy as a family. As I painted the picture with all this in mind I reminisced those long hazy summers in the garden during the years I homeschooled our children. Remembering the gorgeous and fragrant mature lilac bush, beautiful apple tree laden with fruit that served many preserve jars, to the flowering quince tree and rose bushes. On warm sunny days we’d have drinks, fruit and snacks on the homeschool table for the children as they studied, punctuated with breaks having fun on the trampoline or playing with the cats. There were so many fun memories; the paddling pools, scooting around, playing with footballs and badminton sets, or just simply sitting and having breakfast on the terrace, enjoying the birdsong and fresh morning air before the schoolday became busy - I still enjoy having my breakfast in the garden today!

So this is the inspiration behind “Summer Garden”. I hope you enjoy viewing it. Giclee prints are also available to purchase in A4, A3 or A2 sizes.

Love Val x
