A BRIEF SKETCH - A HAPPY MEMORY

Hi Friends,

I hope this blog post finds you well!

This morning I had an errand to run and needed to wait in my car for 40 minutes with nothing much to do. I’d forgotton my phone and didn’t have a book to read, but thankfully had my notebook and a black pen. After writing a few thoughts down and spending a few moments in quiet relection and prayer, I decided to sketch the view in front of me from inside my car. Although the notebook page was lined, it didn’t deter me as I happily sketched quickly without really thinking about it much - I didn’t even bother to put my glasses on until half way through the sketch lol! As I sketched, passing the time waiting in my car, I found that I was actually quite enjoying my time sketching impromtu, which I don’t normally do. Note to self: Remember to take my sketch book with me from now on! It was a really interesting and enjoyable time. I really liked how the quick study on perspective played an important part in my sketch (ignore the scribble on the right hand top corner lol!) Basically, I wasn’t planning on doing a sketch, but I just used what I had in the moment, being spontaneous and not worrying about whether it was correct or not - but just expressing myself creatively with the view I had in front of me.

It turned into a lovely 40 minutes of fun quality time - a happy accident! I was so pleased with the sketch that when I came home I got my watercolour paints out and my paintbrushes, and added colour to the sketch. One of my daughters came in to the room and even recognised the scene without me even telling her where it was!

Imagine a brief 40 minute spontaneous exercise that can brighten your day! What would have been a long wait in the car turned into a happy memory. Perspective is everything! Why don’t you have a go doing a quick sketch of your surroundings - I’m sure you will enjoy it!

Being thankful in every circumstance.

With Love and blessings,

Valerie x
